Buyers Guide: Ice Blade Frames and Conversion Kits for Inline Skates
Winter is in full effect in the northern regions around the world. Where I live, in Vermont, we have had snow on the ground for over a month. To inline skate, I have to drive 2-3 hours to either go to a skatepark in Quebec, New Hampshire, Maine, or down to Boston to go trail or urban skating. This is not something I can often do; however, I have an ice rink down the street from my house, and there are dozens of frozen lakes and ponds around me to skate on all winter long.
I grew up ice skating, and my mom still ice skates twice a week. She always wants me to go with her, but I’m not too fond of the lacing system on hockey or figure skates. I can’t seem to get them tight enough, and after a while, they just hurt my feet. I’ve long dreamed of how fun skating on my much more comfortable inline skate boots with ice blades would be.
That dream is now a reality with a wide range of ice frames and ice blade conversion kits available for most kinds of inline skates. We have put together a list of current frames and blades on the market. Hopefully, this guide can help you pick the right frame to put on your favorite boots and enjoy winter skating with your mom, friends, kids, or loved ones.

This article is AMAZING!
Thanks for taking so much time to do this.
I have K2 Fatty with Ground Control UFS frames but they feel too short. Cant get a reply or number for Microskate. Do you have any suggestions please? I want a long frame for which I don’t need to change all the wheels each time, and don’t want to to get an extra pair as I have no extra space… many thanks 🙂
