Joey Cheek knew exactly what he wanted to do from the time he was 10 years old. From the moment he joined the rollerblading team at the Skateland on North Church Street, he did and thought about little else but skating. He loved to train and race in a sport that gave no scholarships and little recognition to its champions.
Joey Cheek is an American former inline speed skater who in 2006 won an Olympic gold in the 500-meter ice speed skating event in Turin, Italy and silver in the 1,000-meter race. He also won the bronze medal in the 1,000 meters in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.
